You will have the opportunity to pick your time in the rainforest. Itineraries range from 3, 4, 5, or 8 days. Each day you will have a different adventure in the Amazon Rainforest.

Your time in the Ecuadorian jungle will vary by locations and by the class of tour you decide to take. Here are some sample itineraries of what your time in the jungle will be like. Travel times will also vary depending on how deep into the forest you want.

Here is a Napo River itinerary...

Monday: Breakfast. After breakfast we will take a small canoe to navigate on the Manduro river until reaching the Sapococha Lagoon. We will walk around the lagoon enjoying the sounds of birds, frogs, monkeys, etc. In addition we will learn about different types of aquatic plants. Return to the lodge to have lunch.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Socali path, characterized for a variety of different jungle lands. This path is used as an introduction trail to learn about the flora and fauna that is possible to find in different types of forest. Return to the lodge to have dinner. Resting time.

Tuesday: After breakfast we will visit the Capibara path. An adventure trail with many swamps. In this trail you will see some palm trees that are impossible to see in other places. Return to the lodge to have lunch.

In the afternoon, without rubber boots and in comfortable dress, (shorts are recommended) the local guides are going to teach us how to use the blowpipe. After this activity we will take a small canoe to enjoy some piranha fishing. Return to the lodge to have dinner. Resting time.

Wednesday: Breakfast. We will wear our rubber boots and jungle dress and take a canoe up river while watching birds, butterflies, orchids and amphibians until we reach the trail "Dos ramas". We will take a short hike to learn about medicinal plants, birds and animals. Return to the lodge to have lunch.

In the afternoon, we will take the Tucan trail.  path that is characterized by its ease for birdwatching, in the area we have recorded over 350 species of birds. Return to the lodge to have dinner. Resting time.

Thursday: After breakfast we will take the motor boat to go out of the borders of our reserve and visit an indigenous family of the Quichuas del Oriente community. Our guides will talk to you about traditions and costumes of these tribes. Return to the lodge to have lunch.

In the afternoon, we will walk through the "Guatusos trail". A new opportunity to learn from our guides the utility of some plants, about birds, insects and animals. Return to the lodge to have dinner. Resting time.

Friday: After breakfast, we will go deep inside in the jungle until we reach a small river surrounded by stones, sand, clay and other elements. In this place the guides will show us the techniques and instruments to make protractors baskets heavy objects with the resources of the Amazon.

This is what 5 day/4 night itinerary could be like...

DAY 1: Meeting point is at the Quito Airport (UIO), at 08:00. A representative will assist you with flight check in and provide you with ythe group box lunch. The flight duration is about 30 minutes (to the city of Lago Agrio. Private transportation will drive you (2½ - 3 hours) to “El Puente” (The Bridge), which is the entrance to the Cuyabeno Reserve. During the drive you will have the opportunity to see beautiful landscapes. On “El Puente” you will enjoy ythe group lunch and continue the trip via motorized canoe. In this narrow river you will be able to admire some of the wide variety of flora and fauna the Cuyabeno Reserve has to offer. You will arrive around dusk at the lodge. Dinner will be served at approximately 07:30 PM; after dinner the guide will inform the group of the next day’s activities, and the required equipment.

DAY 2: After breakfast at 08:30 AM you will take a canoe upstream to “Laguna Grande” (Big Lake) enjoying a slow ride in order to observe the surrounding Flora and Fauna. Upon arriving you will begin a trek on a path called Palma Roja “Red Palm”. This will be the group first encounter with primary rainforest, which is the habitat for many terrestrial mammals; such as Tapirs, Capibaras, Jaguars, Agoutis and many more species native to the rainforest. The duration of this trek is close to 3 ½ hours. There will be the opportunity to admire a variety of ancient trees, long Lianas and Giant Palms. We also hope to have the opportunity to see and hear many species of birds such as Woodpeckers, Tanagers, Macaws, and Toucans; and with luck you will come across two or three species of Monkeys. This trek loops around in the rainforest bringing you back to the beginning point. The group returns around 01:30 PM, to take the canoe back to the lodge. Lunch is served at the lodge followed by a resting period. During this time guests will have the option to try Piranha fishing or just relax in the group hammocks to read or take a “Siesta”.

At 05:00 PM the group meets and takes the canoe to a new area of “Laguna Grande”. Once you get to the lake you search for birds and other animals. The option of swimming is available and it is a perfectly safe and relaxing activity. At night with flashlights you will look for animals on the shores of the lake and river. The group will return to the lodge around 07:00 PM. After dinner depending on the weather conditions you can take a quick night trek around the lodge looking for frogs and other night wanderers.

DAY 3: Early in the morning the group takes canoes along the river as you search for exotic birds native to this region. Ranging from Blue and Yellow Macaws, Scarlet Macaws, Blue Tailed Emeralds, Hoatzins, and Amazon King Fishers, just to name a few. Boasting with a bird list of more than 500 species; makes the Cuyabeno Reserve a privileged location for birding and a delight for seasoned as well as beginner birdwatchers. The group returns to the lodge for breakfast. Today you will travel downstream. You will enjoy a 2 hour Canoe ride as you search for Morphos (Giant Blue Butterfly), Toucans, Macaws and with some luck Monkeys, combined with an excellent view of the surrounding rainforest. On the way you will pass the village of Puerto Bolivar where the inhabitants, known as the Siona, are living. Following Puerto Bolivar, you will stop at a small settlement. Here you will have the opportunity to visit and meet the local Shaman. These natives belong to the Cofan ethnic group. The visit to this small settlement will also be the entry point for a new trek into the rainforest. The trek will begin along the river bank. There you will be greeted by marvelous ancient Kapok trees which live to be 800 years old; the roots of these ancient marvels can grow as big as a small room. The path that you will follow leads through small creeks. There you will break to enjoy a tasty box lunch and relax. The Shaman will spend some time with us. This humble man carries within him years of wisdom and knowledge regarding the rainforest and the use of medicinal plants. He will share with us some of the many experiences he has had with the rainforest, other shamans and process of healing people. For the interested guests, you can participate in a “healing” ceremony which should last about 40 minutes. There will be some free time to ask him questions or simply take pictures of and with him. You will visit some other tribe people and return to the lodge; arriving just before dusk. Dinner will be served at around 08:00 PM. Overnight spent at The lodge.

DAY 4: On this day, guests will have the option to choose their activities with the guide. Several options are available, ranging from bird watching, canoeing, fishing, or walking in the rainforest. According to the type of activity you choose, the day will be scheduled to fulfill your group's interest. Lunch will be served at the lodge. In the afternoon the group guests can enjoy some leisure time and enjoy the last Sunset over the lake. Dinner will be served at around 08:00 PM. After dinner you will serve and enjoy a farewell Passion Fruit Cocktail, as you take a little time to introduce the group hard working, attentive and diligent staff members

DAY 05: Breakfast will be served at 08:00 AM. After breakfast you will coordinate and schedule the group's departure from the lodge. Departure time is generally between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM depending on flight times, river and road conditions as well as the guide’s decision. The group staff will attend to the luggage as they make sure it is all loaded onto the canoe. You will depart The lodge and make the group way back to the bridge. The group private transportation will be waiting for us. Drive back to Lago Agrio. Arrive to airport.

Here is a 7 day example from the Huaorani territory
near Coca....

Navigating in a motorized canoe on the river Tiguino in the middle of the most untouched and dense rainforest in Ecuador; paying attention on the hikes to explanations from the guides about the flora and fauna; listening in the tents to the nightly noises in the forest; learning in the remote Huaorani –village about their ancient and traditional culture: this is our adventurous tour into the Huaorani – Territory.

Day 1:   Reception by our staff in the town of Coca (Francisco de Orellana), ride by bus to the Huaorani-village Tiguino, situated in the Pastaza Province, Lunch, navigation downstream in canoe by motor on the Tiguino river. On the way, we have the opportunity to see many different birds, as sometimes parrots, toucans and also monkeys.  In the Lodge, the guide explains the program of the next days, then a Welcome cocktail and Dinner.

Day 2:  After breakfast we navigate the Tiguino River downstream to its mouth with the river Cononaco and we follow it until we arrive at the Huaorani village of Bameno. It takes at least seven hours to get there and on the way we have lunch on a sandy beach. We build up our camp close to the village and have dinner.

Day 3:   In the morning we accompany several Huaorani into the forest for a longer walk. They show us how they use the different plants to build their houses and their weapons and their use as medicine plants. The option also exists to join them on a traditional hunt with their blowpipe and with curare poisoned darts. In the afternoon we visit a hidden oxbow lake for sport fishing. Return to the camp and dinner.

Day 4:  Early in the morning we drift the river down and hopefully have the possibility to observe different birds and mammals. After breakfast we visit the whole village and learn about their culture and way of life. The Huaorani have been in contact with our civilization for only a few decades and try to hold on to their traditions, but can not stop all the inventions and problems of our culture. After lunch we go fishing or play a football game against almost the whole village of Bameno.

Day 5:  After breakfast we break down our camp and navigate more of the river downstream to a new campground. Afterwards we go on a hike where the guides explain more about the complex system of the rainforest. In the afternoon we have some time to relax and we create our own handicrafts in the Huaorani style such as necklaces and crowns. In the night we navigate on the river and search for caimans and other nocturnal animals

Day 6:  Today during the day we return to the Lodge Bataburo. There we go rowing with the canoe in the oxbow lake. Time to relax and dinner.

Day 7:  Very early in the morning we make a little hike to observe birds and mammals (option). After breakfast we pack up our equipment and navigate the river Tiguino upstream. On the way we have lunch on a sandy beach. On the bridge our bus is waiting for us and we arrive at approx. 04:30 pm. back in Coca.
